The Young Indians (YI), Kolkata Chapter hosted The High Commissioner of the Republic of Ghana

The Young Indians (YI), Kolkata Chapter, The Youth Wing of CII (Confederation of Indian Industry) hosted Mr. Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh, High Commissioner of the Republic of Ghana in India on 7th March, 2022 at Taj Bengal, Kolkata.

The event had other delegates like Mr. Dwarka Prasad Tantia, The Honorary Consul of the Republic of Ghana in Kolkata, Mr. Ernest Nana Adjei, The Minister- Counsellor/Political & Economic and Mr. Eric Amoaka Missah, The 1st Secretary/ Consular and Welfare Officer in attendance.

The speaker touched upon topics like trade opportunities, culture and tourism in the Western African country and the future of world trade in the present threat of de-globalisation.

Mr Kwaku spoke about the trade opportunities in Ghana, a land rich in minerals, oils, gases and a leader in Gold, Diamond, Bauxite, Manganese, Lithium mining. However as of now there are no Manganese refineries in Ghana. This can be a great opportunity for Indian Mining Companies.

He further highlighted the potential prospects of the Agriculture industry in Ghana which is the world’s largest producer of Cocoa and abundant in timber. With the agriculture industry in boom, the opportunities for agro machinery, cattle rearing and poultry feeds are great investment opportunities too.
The Iron and steel industry is also quite big in Ghana. As of now there are 818 Indian Projects in Ghana – KEC for railways, ESCORTS for Agro machinery, AFCONS for engineering and construction, B5 in iron and steel, etc.The indian investments in Ghana stand at an approximate $500 Million and is growing YoY at 10%.
Additionally, Mr Kwaku also spoke about the tourism opportunities in the country which has serene beaches and growing wildlife. Hospitality sector too is booming with a tourism university being established and Hotel chains like Kempinski and IHCL showing interest to develop properties there.
