Masters of Marriott Bonvoy bring their concept Indian eatery, the crossing, to Kolkata

Masters of Marriott Bonvoy continues to showcase and celebrate culinary excellence with like-minded partners who are poised to redefine the culinary landscape.

The collaboration with The Crossing, co-founded by renowned Chef Ankur Chakraborty, touted to be Dubai’s leading modern Indian restaurant, will mark the first international pop-up tour since its opening in January 2022.

Their signature menu is expected to bring alive the modern rendition of Indian delicacies, showcased through exclusive dining experiences for guests and patrons for the City of Joy.

Marriott International’s flagship initiative Masters of Marriott Bonvoy has hosted legendary Chefs such as Massimo Bottura from Osteria Francescana in April, the Sühring Twins from Bangkok in August and the recently concluded association with renowned Chef Manish Mehrotra of Indian Accent in September.

The Crossing, which opened on January 20th, 2022, has already grown to become one of the most sought-after restaurants in Dubai, with nominations and awards in a variety of categories, including The Best New Restaurant by BBC Good Food, FACT Awards 2022, and World Culinary Awards, for Best New Restaurant in the Middle East.

The menu at The Crossing, which celebrates Indian diversity in Dubai, is a mash-up of lost cuisines and ingredients that create a new story where conventional, classic meets forgotten recipes.

The cuisine combines Indian flavours, recipes, and influences to create culinary treats with traces of nostalgia and tightly kept family secrets.

The menu includes less curries but focuses on shared plates that are reminiscent of classic Indian comfort food that generations have grown up with.

The Masters of Marriot Bonvoy and The Crossing have collaborated for a pop-up at JW Marriott Hotel, Kolkata which will be one-of-a kind experience for food enthusiasts of the city, to enjoy and engage in conversations with Chef Sunil Datt Rai, Head of Gastronomy – LemonButter, Dubai, Chef Prakash Chettiyar, Executive Chef of JW Marriott Hotel, Kolkata and General Manager of JW Marriott Hotel, Kolkata, Mr.Sumeet Suri.

The Crossing is an Indian specialty restaurant that delves into the intricacies of “blended” modern Indian cuisines. As the name implies, these are the very essence of the culinary identity and specialty of the restaurant.

Commenting on the collaboration “We would like to thank Marriott International for inviting us to display our culinary expertise, The Crossing, whose idea is built in combining cultures and sharing gastronomic experiences across the subcontinent, will be available for the first time to Indian citizens. We are convinced that they will enjoy a memorable eating experience from beginning to end.”

stated Jarret D’Abreo, Managing Director and Co-Founder of The Crossing.

“With each volume of Masters of Marriott Bonvoy, we push the edge even further in terms of presenting the most sought-after culinary experiences from around the world.” It gives us great joy to have The Crossing team on board to replicate a variety of excellent dining experiences that elicit a profound sense of appreciation for innovative and sublime cross-cultural foods. “The collaboration between acclaimed and inventive culinary teams guarantees that our guests and culinary lovers will always have access to a choice of exclusive and unforgettable dining experiences,”

stated Khushnooma Kapadia, Marriott International’s Senior Area Director of Marketing – South Asia.
With timeless cooking techniques, the restaurant has creatively curated a special menu that will include some of its house specialties like ‘Chaat – Shiso leaf crisp, chickpea chaat with curd and chutneys’, ‘Dal Moradabad – Yellow split mung lentil, pakwaan nest, chutney’ ‘Gunpowder Prawns – Fresh prawns, butter-pepper-garlic and gunpowder masala’ and ‘Bottle Masala – Fresh local catch, bottle masala glaze, citrus salad’.
To complement the food, the pop-up will provide a variety of beverages, including mocktails, fine grapes, and bubbles.
The Crossing hosted exclusive dining experiences across Bangalore and Mumbai as part of their tri-city India tour.
