National Farmer’s Day is observed on 23rd December 2020 and is popularly known as “Kisan Diwas” in India. It is celebrated to pay respect to farmers who provide us with good quality food. It is to honor the birth anniversary of Chaudhari Charan Singh who was born on 23rd December 2020. He was known as the Kisan Leader and followed the slogan of 2nd Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shashtri “Jai Jawan Jai Kisan “ from pre-independence to Post-independence era. He played a very important role in the agricultural sector by drafting and enacting various reforms for the farmers. 

The reason behind celebrating Farmer’s Day 

The reason behind celebrating Farmer’s Day is to promote awareness among the citizens of the country about social and economic development. The motive behind the celebration is to encourage the farmers in the country and organize various activities for them and also to reward them. The idea is to propagate farming among the youth and to develop the farmers standards in the country.The agricultural community and officers educate the farmers about latest development and techniques in farming which can help them evolve better. The officials provide and suggest various tricks and tips to cultivate farming which will be beneficial to farmers.

Like Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh celebrates Farmer’s Day as these states have large numbers of growing farmers. “Even if a farmer is rich, then so is the nation” , This quote holds for our Indian society. The discovery of agriculture is the first step towards a civilized life. We need to explain to our young generation to take up the agricultural sector as a career initiative and outgrow the segment of agriculture. 23 rd December 2020 is a perfect day to respect farmers who work day in and out to provide us with good quality grains.
