Joaquin Pheonix is an American actor and producer. He is also an environmentalist and an animal rights activist. He has been the recipient of numerous awards, such as an Academy Award, a Grammy Award, and two Golden Globe Awards.
Joaquin Phoenix came from a film family and started acting early with his brother River and sister Summer on television. His first significant role was in the film SpaceCamp. During that period, he was recognized as Leaf Phoenix. He received positive reviews for his supporting role in the films To Die For and the period film Quills. He received wider recognition when he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Commodus in the historical drama film Gladiator. He has earned Best Actor nominations for portraying the role of musician Johnny Cash in Walk the Line, an alcoholic war veteran in The Master, and the title character in Joker, which earned him the Academy award. His other films are Signs, and The Village, Hotel Rwanda, Her, Inherent Vice, and You Were Never Really Here, for which he won the Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Actor.
Phoenix has also experimented with directing music videos, producing films and television shows. He won the Grammy Award for Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media for recording the soundtrack to Walk the Line. He is a social activist and has supported several charities and humanitarian organizations. He is on the board of directors for The Lunchbox Fund, a non-profit organization that provides daily meals to school students in Soweto, South Africa. Joaquin Pheonix is also advocates for animal rights. He has been a vegan since the age of three and often campaigns with PETA and In Defense of Animals.
