The Odisha government has authorized the resumption of passenger bus service and the reopening of barbershops and beauty parlors.
The Odisha government today prolonged the state’s partial lockdown till 6 a.m. on August 1. Odisha has stretched the lockdown for the fourth time during the second wave of the Covid-19 epidemic. Chief Secretary S C Mohapatra told reporters that the partial lockdown was extended since the pandemic situation was not yet “completely under control.”
The coastal state went under lockdown on May 5, with the lockdown set to expire on Friday. “The daily test positive rate (TPR) of Odisha, which was 5% on July 1, has now dropped to below 3%,” Mohapatra noted. The number of daily infections has also dropped to 2,000, down from 3,000 earlier this month. It implies that the issue hasn’t ultimately improved.
“The administration has declared some relaxations to create a balance between life and livelihood,” Mohapatra said of the removal of some Covid-19 limits. The chief secretary announced the graded relaxations, dividing the districts into Category A and Category B. The 20 communities in Category A are located in the state’s western and southern areas, while the remaining ten coastal districts are in Category B. According to the chief secretary, the infection rate is relatively high in Khurda, Cuttack, and Puri.
Seventy to eighty percent of the 2,000 daily cases reported today are in the ten Category B areas. Khurda district, which includes the state capital, accounts for around 40% of new patients. Shops in Category A areas will be permitted to remain open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day.
He stated that the relaxation would be in effect between 6 a.m. and 5 p.m. in Category B areas. Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Kalahandi, Bolangir, Nuapada, Sonepur, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Boudh, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Angul, Dhenkanal, and Keonjhar are the districts under Category A. Khurda, Puri, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Balasore, Bhadrak, and Mayurbhanj are the Category B districts.
The state’s night curfew will stay in effect in all 30 communities, but the weekend lockdown will be implemented exclusively in Category-B districts.
