MESC and SSPU organized a National Conference on the ‘Changing Landscape in Media & Entertainment Sector-2022’

Pune / New Delhi: The Media and Entertainment industry is reshaping rapidly with advancements in media and digital communication technologies. This progress has resulted in creating diverse opportunities in the field of animation, gaming, visual effects, AR VR, and content production for television, films & OTT.

The Media & Entertainment Skills Council (MESC) in collaboration with The School of Media Management, Symbiosis Skills and Professional University (SSPU), Kiwale, Pune organized a National Conference on ‘Changing Landscape of Media & Entertainment – 2022′ on the 26th June 2022 at Symbiosis Skills & Professional University Campus, Kiwale (off Mumbai- Pune Expressway). The Hon’ble Union Minister for Information, Broadcasting, Youth Affairs, and Sports, Government of India, Shri. Anurag Thakur blessed the event as Chief Guest and Shri. Resul Pookutty graced the event as a Guest of Honour.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was exchanged between the Media and Entertainment Skills Council (MESC) and Symbiosis Skills & Professional University (SSPU) in the presence of the Hon’ble Minister during the inaugural function of the conference. MESC & SSPU will soon be launching various Industry-led and apprenticeship-linked training programs in Animation, VFX, and Gaming with a vision to create world-class talent, meeting national and international benchmarks and requirements.

Hon’ble Minister Shri Anurag Thakur inaugurated the Conference. He appreciated the unique skill development model and congratulated the University and MESC for successfully implementing the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s Skills Mission of creating Industry-ready youth. He said that this conference will provide a platform for industry and academia to come together and deliberate on the opportunities and avenues in the sector of digital media that will inspire students to be a part of this emerging sector. He further emphasized that today’s generation should focus on making India the ‘Content Hub’ of the world.

Shri. Resul Pookutty, Oscar & BAFTA winning Sound Mixer / Designer, appreciated the initiative and encouraged students to make the most of the skill-based learning model of MESC and the University. He also motivated the students to learn from the cultural heritage of our country.

Speaking on the occasion, Chancellor – SSPU, Dr. S. B. Mujumdar said that students should take this opportunity to explore new careers in Digital Media and Entertainment. He said that we are indeed honored to have such stalwarts from the industry sharing their experiences and ensuring their willingness to support the ecosystem in developing the best talent and offering enormous opportunities. He added that such conferences and collaboration with Industry will go long way in promoting and popularising this sector amongst students and creating leaders for tomorrow.

CEO of MESC, Mr. Mohit Soni said that the requirement for skilled resources in the M&E sector is growing substantially and to meet these requirements such partnerships will play a key role. An ever-evolving model with a strong industry alliance will enable us to prepare our students for today and tomorrow, nationally and internationally, making India the content and resource capital of the world. He thanked the industry partners for their presence and said that with their continuous support and guidance on the curriculum, content, master trainers, and train the trainer programs, MESC and SSPU will ensure that the industry has the desired outcome through this partnership.

The conference witnessed 30+ esteemed stalwarts from the media and entertainment sector who deliberated on the growth and employment opportunities in digital media covering a wide range of topics including animation, VFX, opportunities in gaming and comics, OTT, TV and film production, AR/VR – immersive media, and new-age skills.

Mr. Amit Behl, General Secretary, CINTAA shared various opportunities in the field of media and entertainment. Mr. Munjal Shroff, Director & COO, Graphiti Multimedia Pvt. Ltd. shared about the avenues that are opening up in the industry. Mr. E. Suresh – Animator, Founder & Director, Eeksaurus Production, and Mr. Rajan, Director- HR & Operations at Phantom FX conducted workshops on Styles of Animation & VFX respectively. Other Keynote speakers included Mr. Manish Agarwal, CEO, Nazara Technologies Ltd., Mr. Keitan Yadav, Chief Operating Officer, Red Chillies VFX, Mr. Ashish Kulkarni Founder, Punnaryug, Artvision Pvt. Ltd. The Conference was a grand success with over 800 participants attending the conference. The deliberations with industry stalwarts enabled students to understand the various emerging careers that the digital media sector offers today and motivated them to pursue careers in this field.
